Recognition and management of patients with OUD: Treatment, harm reduction and naloxone
Description:
Opioid use disorder (OUD) is a life-threatening and often iatrogenic disease. For anyone who uses opioids for treatment of chronic pain, it is expected that some patients will develop opioid use disorders. In some studies as many as 25% of patients on chronic opioids develop OUD. In this lecture, Dr. Stader describes how to recognize and screen for OUD, and makes a compelling case for why primary care clinicians have a duty to continue to care for patients who develop opioid use disorders. The lecture also explores the strong evidence behind medications for addiction treatment (MAT) and introduces how to start incorporating buprenorphine into clinical practice. Lastly, the lecture covers harm reduction and how to best utilize naloxone and counseling for overdose prevention.
This pre-recorded webinar, by speaker Don Stader, MD, FACEP, will take an estimated 75 minutes to complete.
