This course explains how to diagnose pain, the role of psychological factors in the development and maintenance of chronic pain, and evidence-based non-opioid alternatives to treat pain.

- Discuss how to diagnose pain in a way that guides treatment and addresses psychological co-morbidities
- Review non-opioid evidence-based treatments for pain, including commonly used medications.
- Describe complementary and alternative treatments and what it means to practice “integrative medicine”.
Jonathan Clapp, MD, MS received his medical degree from Rosalind Franklin University in Illinois. He completed his residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and was chief resident at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. He is triple board certified in PM&R, Pain Medicine and Addiction Medicine and has been practicing pain medicine in the Denver area since 2009. He is currently Past-President of the Colorado Pain Society and former Chairman of the Colorado Medical Society’s Substance Use Disorder Committee.
