Compass HQIC Annual Update for NHSN Measures
Linda R. Greene, RN, MPS, CIC, FAPIC

The National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) surveillance system with the Center for Disease Control (CDC) is a widely used healthcare-associated infection (HAI) tracking system. Through use of the NHSN system, facilities can input data, utilize benchmarking reports, identify areas of concern and track progress toward improving infection prevention. Each year the NHSN issues updates to the six components of Patient Safety, Long-term Care Facility, Outpatient Dialysis, Healthcare Personnel Safety, Biovigilance and Outpatient Procedure. This program will address changes in the Patient Safety component of the NHSN Manual. Training objectives include:

  • Describe the impact of 2021 updates and reporting changes on the completion of the Annual NHSN Safety Survey
  • Identify at least two action steps to enhance the accuracy of NHSN reporting
  • List two steps to get started with Antimicrobial Utilization reporting
