Active and productive PFACs offer a forum for hospitals to obtain ideas, input and insights to guide quality improvement efforts. PFAC members bring their experience in partnering with healthcare professionals and sharing their unique perspectives. During this webinar, Iowa Healthcare Collaborative president and CEO, Tom Evans will join Project Patient Care executive director, Pat Merryweather-Arges to discuss what PFACs can offer, the improvements and side effects that have taken place in hospitals prior to and during the pandemic, methods that have been used for physical and mental health, concerns on supply shortages, new nursing home policies and more.

- Describe the before COVID and post COVID surge changes that have effected patients and hospital staff
- Identify key areas in which shifts in care may become permanent
- Highlight the importance of consumer and patient voices when it comes to uptake or rejection of COVID vaccines

Pat Merryweather-Arges, Executive Director, Project Patient Care
Pat Merryweather-Arges serves as the executive director of project patient care bringing the voice of patients, residents, families and caregivers to policy and performance improvement initiatives. She has served as an executive director of a three-state QIO and senior vice president with the Illinois Hospital Association. Merryweather-Arges serves on the IHC Board of Directors and state, national and international healthcare, quality and safety boards and committees. She also is a child life volunteer at a children’s hospital for the past 28 years.
Tom Evans, MD, President and CEO, Iowa Healthcare Collaborative
Tom Evans has been president and CEO of the IHC since 2005. Dr. Evans received a bachelor and master of arts degree from Drake University. He received his medical degree from the University of Iowa in 1983 and completed his Family Medicine residency at Broadlawns Medical Center in 1986. He practiced family medicine for thirteen years before serving as chief medical officer for the Iowa Health System from 1999 to 2005. Dr. Evans has served as president of both the Iowa Medical Society and the Iowa Academy of Family Physicians. He has also served on the delegations for both the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Evans is a faculty member with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, the College of Medicine at Des Moines University and the College of Public Health at the University of Iowa. He also serves on the Board of Trustees for Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota.
