Recognition and Management of Patients with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD), focuses on the practical aspects of identifying and treating OUD in primary care settings. This session will cover effective screening methods for OUD within primary care practices. Participants will learn about the benefits of medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) and how buprenorphine can be successfully integrated into their practice. The lecture will also discuss essential harm reduction strategies, including the appropriate use and distribution of naloxone.

Dr. Joshua Blum, MD

Dr. Joshua Blum, MD is a board-certified internist and addiction medicine physician who practiced at Denver Health and Hospital Authority in Denver, CO as the director of outpatient substance use disorder treatment.  As an institutional quality officer, he led initiatives on pain and opioid management and chaired Denver Health’s pharmacy and therapeutics committee. He is a past president of the Colorado chapter of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, and co-chair of the Provider Education Workgroup at the Colorado Consortium for Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention.  He also serves on the boards of the Colorado Pain Society and the Harm Reduction Action Center. Dr. Blum attended Dartmouth College and the University of Southern California School of Medicine before completing his medicine residency at the University of Colorado.
