The Affordable Care Act requires all nonprofit hospitals to develop a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) to identify high priority community health needs and an Implementation Plan to address these needs. Although considerable progress has been made in meeting most or all of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) requirements for the CHNA and Implementation Plans, some Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs) have experienced difficulties in meeting all the requirements.

The Iowa Flex Program is excited to be rolling out the National CAH Quality Inventory Assessment along with the other 44 participating Flex states. The Assessment will allow everyone to learn more about CAH service lines offered, quality improvement (QI) infrastructure and activities, and related quality measures. The Assessment, which is the first of its kind at a national level, will be an opportunity to gather a wealth of information that will help national partners, our state’s Flex Program in an effort to improve how we support safe and high-quality care in CAHs.

We will review the types of hospital related events that threaten patient safety and how to identify and address them for improvement. The Health Resources and Services Administration has recently awarded the Rural Quality Improvement Technical Assistance Center (RQITA) to Telligen. RQITA’s goal is to improve quality and health outcomes in rural healthcare with a focus on the Medicare Beneficiary Quality Improvement Project (MBQIP). This webinar recording will provide an introduction to the RQITA team and offer a review of the new MBQIP measures.
